Super Special Disability
Roadshow
(Digital)
|
This filmed performance will be available to watch in school for a period of two weeks. There will be two opportunities to watch the film for teachers to choose from, November 2026 and March 2027. We will offer Twilight CLPL Sessions for teachers in select areas, and a filmed version of this CLPL session will be available as well.
Roadshow hosts Rob and Sal are testing out Rob’s new high tech version of their roadshow. Desperate to stay with it Rob has embraced the digital era. Opening with a cheery (some might say cheesy!) ditty, they launch into their new show. Things are going pretty well, as Rob and Sal teach us what it’s like for disabled people in today’s world … until the younger generation decides to set them straight! Drawing on stories and experiences of disabled children and adults, the show explores what it means to be disabled and how different generations of disabled people feel about their identities, with characteristic Birds of Paradise humour, heart and honesty. An original commission by Imaginate for Edinburgh International Children’s Festival 2021 For P4-S2 pupils. Filmed performance available to watch in school. Can be watched in classrooms, or as a larger group. Can be watched multiple times during the access period. Teacher Twilight CLPL Sessions: 20 October 2026 at National Theatre of Scotland 28 October 2026 at Aberdeen Performing Arts 4 March in North Lanarkshire (location TBC) Filmed version of the session available online in February and March 2027 We encourage all teachers taking part to attend a Twilight CLPL Session or view the filmed session. This session will build understanding and confidence about disability equality from the perspective of disabled people - from all stages of life, whether pupils in a school environment or 'grown ups' out in a world that is not yet built or structured with them in mind. Learn about why BOP made SSDR and the conversations it can open up with the young people in your classroom. From introducing the Social Model of Disability to looking at historical attitudes to disabled people and how these have shaped the society and culture around us we will build knowledge and confidence to discuss access and disability in ways that further break down barriers in the work you do to make schools more accessible and truly inclusive. Audience Feedback“I’ve just watched #SSDR and I really can’t recommend it highly enough, for both adults and children. The show grapples with some of the most difficult questions around disability in a completely upfront way, while still being hugely entertaining, funny and very moving.”
