One-man comedy-drama about two twins growing up with cerebral palsy: Bec (a wheelchair user) and Jack (who walks with a limp). Each twin had a very different experience navigating life and school.
Join Jack as he steps back in time, reliving squabbles with his old womb-mate Bec. All whilst battling against societal attitudes and his own emotional darkside: in the form of a well-known disabled Sith Lord. In this true tale of twins growing up, their unique bond is tested as they steer through the trials and tribulations of childhood and school - honking at bullies and overthrowing the low expectations foisted upon them. Originally from Inverness, Jack graduated from Queen Margaret University’s BA Drama & Performance course in 2017.In 2021, Jack wrote One of Two as part of his time on the Playwright Studio and Birds of Paradise Theatre Disabled Playwright Award. Winner of Summerhall’s Mary Dick Award, the production premiered, in association with Birds of Paradise Theatre Company, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022. The show was nominated for Best Production (Scottish Theatre Awards at the Fringe). In 2023, One of Two, presented by Independent Arts Projects, was staged at the Traverse Theatre; & toured Internationally in the Netherlands & Germany. In addition, the show has been developed for school audiences through the Theatre in Schools Scotland development fund. Jack is a poetry Slam Champion & recently performed at the I Am Loud Grand Poetry Slam Final at The Edinburgh International 2023 Book Festival. Notable Theatre credits include: The Pulitzer prize winning Cost of Living (Hampstead Theatre). Kerbs (Graeae Theatre/ Belgrade Theatre); Teenage Dick (Donmar Theatre); All You Need is LSD (Told By An Idiot/ Birmingham Rep); Let Me Play The Lion Too (Told By An Idiot/ Barbican Centre) & Romeo & Juliet (Lanternhouse Theatre). The first development of this work for young people was through an Imaginate Creative Development project supported by the PLACE programme, funded by the Scottish Government (through Creative Scotland), the City of Edinburgh Council and the Edinburgh Festivals. |
