MORE INFORMATIONAbout the performance
The show starts with a wall depicting a woodland landscape. A musician, representing pine trees, is playing the clarinet whilst the children enter and once everyone is settled he searches for Poggle, a woodland sprite who is sleeping under branches. Vince, who likes to be neat and tidy then enters and gets ready to explore the outdoors. He meets Poggle and they set off to have a series of adventures in the outdoors accompanied by the musical pine tree. Vince has fun but then becomes scared about climbing the trees and doesn’t make it up to Poggle who is high in the trees. Poggle gives Vince a hug and instead shows him how to have fun playing in the mud and jumping on magical musical stones. A buzzing bee appears in the woods and Poggle and Vince try to help the bee back to its hive, in doing so Vince manages to overcome his fear and climbs high up the tree to the hive. Vince and Poggle are so pleased they celebrate with a song and a dance. Poggle then becomes tired and settles down for a nap. The children are then asked to help put Poggle to sleep by covering her in branches. Once Poggle is asleep the teachers and children can start to explore the set, the cubes have all turned round to display woodland installations in each cube. Poggle wakes up with a start and plays with the children and they too can jump on the magical musical stones. The performance is 40 minutes long including a 10 minute section where the children and teachers are invited into the performance area to help Poggle get ready for her nap, jump on the musical stones and explore the woodland set. The children will sit in a horseshoe around the set on mats with a row of benches behind. The stage manager will greet you as you enter the hall and show the children where to sit. The show is dance theatre so there are very few words. Learning Themes and Curriculum for Excellence LinkS
Expressive Arts My learning in, through and about the expressive arts:
EXA 0-01a / EXA 1-01a / EXA 2-01a I can respond to the experience of dance by discussing my thoughts and feelings. I can give and accept constructive comment on my own and others’ work. EXA 0-11a / EXA 1-11a / EXA 2-11a / EXA 3-11a Health & Wellbeing Vince and Poggle form an important friendship and she encourages him to try new things and to like things he didn't like before e.g. mud / trees, bees etc. I am aware of how friendships are formed and that likes, dislikes, special qualities and needs can influence relationships.
