Daniel Padden’s
WHIRLYGIG

A madcap musical adventure

WhirlyGig is 4 brave musicians, 30 fully-insured instruments, and countless musical puzzles to solve. A remarkable theatrical experience where extraordinary music will happen in ways you have never seen before.

A famous musical quartet have been playing together for years. Everywhere they go audiences queue to hear them. But one day the musicians arrive for a concert, ready to wow audiences, but there is no score to play. What will they do? Tempers explode, arguments break out, the trombone player leaves and the flautist is crying in the corner. What can the group do to come together? Can they compromise? Can they find a way to play together when they have no idea what to play?

MORE INFORMATION

About the performance
This new show for P3 – P6 aims to celebrate the importance of creativity, improvisation and taking risks. The performance will challenge conventional ideas of what a score is, what an instrument can be and how they can be played. The characters express the importance of cooperation, sensitivity and invention when playing and making music as well as presenting the skills and expertise that all professional musicians must have.

Children will sit on 3 sides of the performance space; we will provide the seating but school benches and chairs may also be used.
Co-produced with Red Bridge Arts & Catherine Wheels
